Vested as a deacon, the newly ordained goes to the bishop and kneels before him. The bishop places the Book of the Gospels in the hands of the newly ordained and says:

"Receive the Gospel of Christ,
Whose herald you now are.
Believe what you read,
Teach what you believe,
And practice what you teach.”

With these words, the Bishop of Charlotte sends his deacons into ministry. A Ministry of service to the incarcerated, hospitalized, homeless, aged, foreigner, the least of His sheep. Ministry not only to the Altar, but also to the people of the Diocese of Charlotte.
