Diocese of Charlotte Archives

Mission

The Archives is the official repository for the records of the Diocese of Charlotte and serves to retain the memory of the established Catholic Church in this area.  We are a service organization that exists first and foremost for the support of the diocesan administration.

Purpose

We provide a professional archive facility that identifies, collects, preserves and makes available all historically and canonically significant records, documents, artifacts, and works of enduring value which pertain to the operation and history of the Diocese of Charlotte, its parishes, agencies, institutions and people.  These materials are extended to researchers according to canon law, civil law, conservation considerations and as resources permit.

Collections

Our holdings include documents of Bishops, Diocesan offices and departments, institutions, agencies, priests, permanent deacons and both male and female religious orders.  In addition, it contains deeds, construction files, blueprints, photographs, microfilmed sacramental records, permanent financial records and the annual reports of parishes and schools.  A vertical file of historical information and a reference library are also available.
