June 2009 Update
The Study for School Expansion was recently completed and one of the major findings was the need for a second high school somewhere north of center city Charlotte. To address this need the Long Range Planning Committee of the MACS school board has been charged with conducting a study to develop recommendations for the feasibility of a second high school. David Longo, member of the MACS school board (Charlotte Catholic High School) will chair this committee. The committee will be made up of members of the board as well as other individuals that can bring key expertise and resources to developing the necessary recommendations. The recommendations for members of this committee will be submitted to Father Arnsparger, Vicar of Education and Linda Cherry, Superintendent of School for their approval.
The work of the committee will begin immediately and updates on progress in this important task will be updated on a regular basis on this web site.
August 2009 Update
The committee has met on a weekly basis during the months of June and July and they are making carefully measured progress in formulating their recommendations.Outside of the weekly meetings a great deal of work in being done in smaller groups focused on more specific areas to be considered in the recommendation including but not limited to:Finance, Location, Structure, Short and long term demographics.Experts in various areas are being brought into the discussions to assure that we have the best and most up to date information available in formulating a recommendation.Once initial recommendations are finalized they will be presented by the committee to the Vicar of Education and the Superintendent. They will decide if the recommendation will be presented to Msgr. West and the Bishop for approval.Any plan that is to go forward will require a solid financial plan including the need for a capital campaign.
We feel good about the progress that has been made to date and will provide further updates as they become available on this web site.
October 2009
The Committee has completed the work on its recommendations and these initial recommendations have been approved by the Diocese. The report was presented at the October School Board meeting held at St. Mark Catholic School in Huntersville. To view the presentation of the report click here.
A great deal of work went into the development of this plan and it presents us with an opportunity to move forward with plans for a High School north of the city. It provides numerous bench marks that must be met along the way to bring the total plan to fruition. We will post futher updates as they occur.
